What is a CNS® nutritionist?

Shilpa Dashpute is Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS) in state of CA and qualified for providing Medical Nutrition Therapy for health conditions. With this Credential  Shilpa  practices Personalized Nutrition. 

Personalized nutrition (PN) considers the unique makeup of individuals and groups of people with similar traits creating a person-centered approach to nutrition science, education, and clinical care. 

“Nutritionist” is a broad term that includes individuals with various training and credentials. The CNS is an accredited certification that distinguishes advanced nutrition professionals, enabling them to practice medical nutrition therapy and other aspects of nutrition care in many states. 

What are the differences between a CNS nutritionist and a RD?

CNS nutritionists have a minimum of a MS or Doctorate in clinical nutrition field or a related healthcare field and has diverse experience in training in: personalized nutrition science, assessment, interventions monitoring, public health, and practice management.

 

RDs have a minimum of a BS in dietetics or nutrition. They are not required to have Masters degree, but many RDs do have it. Their experience & training includes: dietetics, food service management, and nutrition care for individual groups.  RDs are qualified for providing Medical nutrition therapy.

Do you take insurance? 

Unfortunately, I do not take insurance, with the exception of California residents with Medicare. I can provide you with a superbill that can be submitted to your insurance for reimbursement.
